HUT FREY - BAGUALES

This program is designed for experienced backcountry skiers seeking a true Patagonian adventure. Combining the rustic charm of mountain refuges with the refined comfort of Baguales, this trip is perfect for those who want to push their limits in demanding terrain while enjoying breathtaking landscapes and authentic mountain hospitality.

​You'll explore the legendary terrain around Refugio Frey, known for its steep couloirs and spectacular granite spires, before transitioning to Baguales, a vast private reserve offering pristine snow, open bowls, and long descents. Whether you're looking to refine your ski touring skills or challenge yourself in technical backcountry conditions, this trip promises an unforgettable experience.

Day 1 - Arrival Bariloche:

Meet at Bariloche Airport and transfer to the hotel. After settling in, we’ll check equipment to ensure everything is ready for the days ahead. The evening wraps up with a welcome dinner where we’ll discuss the itinerary and prepare for the adventure.

Day 2- Off-Piste Skiing at Cerro Catedral:

A warm-up day to familiarize yourself with Bariloche’s terrain. We’ll head to Cerro Catedral, using ski lifts to access some of the best off-piste runs in the area. This day also allows us to review avalanche safety, ski touring techniques, and ensure all equipment is properly set up. In the eve

Day 3 - Ski Touring to Refugio Frey:

Departing early, we return to Cerro Catedral and take the lifts up to the ridgeline, where we begin our ski tour to Refugio Frey. After arriving at the refuge and enjoying a mountain lunch, we’ll take advantage of the remaining daylight to ski the surrounding terrain. The day ends with a well-deserved meal and rest at the refuge. (Vertical gain: 350m | Approx. 3 hours ascent + afternoon skiing)​

Day 4 - Ski Touring around Frey Hut:

An action-packed day of ski touring around Laguna Toncek, selecting the best couloirs based on snow conditions. If weather permits, we’ll have a mountain picnic and extend our time on the slopes. After a full day of skiing, we return to the refuge to relax, enjoy local beer or wine, and share stories before dinner. (Typical vertical gain: 1000-1500m)

Day 5 - Return to Cerro Catedral & Descent to Bariloche:

After breakfast, we begin our ascent back to Cerro Catedral’s ridgeline before making a long descent back to the base. Arriving in Bariloche in the afternoon, we take some time to rest before preparing for the next stage of our journey. (Vertical gain: 2200m | Approx. 3-4 hours ascent)

Day 6: Transfer to Baguales Mountain Reserve & First Ski Tour:

Leaving Bariloche behind, we drive 50km south to Baguales Mountain Reserve, a remote, privately-owned backcountry paradise. The landscape shifts dramatically, offering vast, open bowls and challenging terrain. After settling into our comfortable mountain refuge, we head out for an afternoon of ski touring before returning for a gourmet dinner. (Typical vertical gain: 1000-1500m)

Day 7: Full Ski Touring Day in Baguales & Return to Bariloche

We dedicate our last full day to exploring Baguales, choosing the best descents based on conditions. The region offers everything from long, flowing runs to steep technical terrain. After our final turns, we begin our return journey to Bariloche, where we’ll celebrate our adventure with a farewell dinner at one of the city’s top restaurants. (Typical vertical gain: 1000-1200m)

Transfer to Bariloche Airport for departure. End of trip!
